It’s not just the photography that makes these chairs are great! These are a pair of the clamshell chairs, a 1950s design by Maurizio Tempestini for Salterini. You can find out more details here.
The bullet planter is a nice touch too.

Dasparkhotel, the brainchild of Andreas Strauss, is located in Ottens-heim, near Linz in Austria.
Created for use in parks and temporary spaces for outdoor festivals, the drains are 2m in diameter and contain a custom-made bed, an electrical outlet, and the ends are capped off with some cool mural art. There are no bathrooms. The first three protoypes are located near public washrooms, and café / bars so you’re never to far from the necessities for civilized living.
You have to book your room in advance online, then you’re given a personal security code to gain access to your room. There is no set rate for your room either – you can leave as much or as little money as you feel your stay was worth.
I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely making a plan to stay at this hotel just to say that I did.

We just found a great new web site called Ponoko that allows you to design products which they then fabricate for you.
Ponoko is the first online shop for individualized goods – things designed and made on demand. Ponoko is the new sustainable way to design, make and deliver products – they cut the waste from oversupply by making products on-demand and they’re also working to cut carbon emissions by sourcing local materials and making products as close to the point of consumption as possible.
Check out this great site and let that budding product designer in you finally shine.
We LOVE everything about this chair and thought it deserved a mention on the blog! If you’ve got any idea who the designer or manufacturer is, let us know. You can find more details about this particular chair here.

It’s been a great day for me. I discovered that the offices of Ray & Charles Eames are just a few blocks away from where I live in Venice. For 30 years they designed from the 901 Abbot Kinney location. I did a little research on it once I discovered location and there were recent plans to turn it into a boutique hotel – Hotel Ray. Unfortunately the plans for the hotel were halted and now the existing building is up for lease as commercial space. Methinks Lushpad will be making a move to 901 Abbot Kinney soon…
At the age of 17, Cees Braakman went to work for the UMS-Pastoe Company – a then small chair making company in Utrecht, The Netherlands – where his father worked as the Manager and Head Draftsman. During his apprenticeship he learned to produce the classic designs that were the backbone of the company at the time.
With the end of WWII, UMS-Pastoe regrouped and Cees traveled to the U.S. on their behalf to study the design and production methods of seminal designers such as Ray and Charles Eames and manufacturing companies such as Herman Miller. From this study, he was inspired to experiment with molded plywood and create light-weight, cost efficient furniture for UMS-Pastoe.
The Netherlands has always had a policy of supporting and nurturing design and designers and with Braakman this was no different. The Stichting Goed Wonen (Good Living Foundation) lauded Braakman’s designs and in doing so, raised Pastoe’s status as a forward-thinking company.
Though Braakman designed all types of furniture, from 1955 through the 1960s, he focused on modular cabinetry. He experimented with various manufacturing methods, including units that consumers could customize for their space and assemble in their home.
Permanent Cees Braakman biography is here.
